- *thinking*
- Uncle Katsuhisa is very annoying and talkative. Specifically in this scene when he was teaching Lynn and Katie how to spit in the car on the way to Georgia. He says loudly,"Hocka-hocka-hocka! Geh-Geh-Geh!" Later, in the road trip, "Uncle sang Katie songs to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat, America the Beautiful, Kookaburra, and some songs I didn't recognize."
- I want Bera-Bera!!
- The Mother in the story is very cautious and loving. An example of how she is cautious is in this scene when she says, "Be Careful" to Katie when she is walking down steps. I think this shows a bit of over protection to her kids. On the other hand, this also shows that she is very caring because she doesn't want Katie to get hurt.
- Run, Katie,Run!
- Father in the story is quite, calm, and a big thinker. In the scene above, he is sitting at the dinner table thinking about many different things for a long time. He is much different from the Uncle, his brother, because he is quit and the uncle is talkative. The father seems like he just goes with the flow and doesn't over exaggerate.
- Katie is the narrator and she is very whiny and loves her sister Lynn. In the scene above Katie is repeatedly crying because she lost Bera-Bera and she cries out, "I want Ber-Bera!". This shows that she is very whiny but it does make sense because she is a young girl. Also, she loves to acknowledge how beautiful Lynn is. Lynn is her role model and Katie looks up to her.
- Lynn is very smart, brave, and a great role-model. When Lynn and Katie got attacked by a dog in the corn fields, Lynn protected her younger sister and fought off the dog. Throughout the book she teaches Katie all different things on how to be successful in life. Also, Lynn is very smart because she kept beating her Uncle in chess which takes mind skills.
