On the 29th of January 1840, William Hobson arrives to the Bay of Islands, NZ.
Shortly after William Hobson arrives in New Zealand, he drafted the first version of the treaty of Waitangi with some help from British resident; James Busby.
On the 4th of February 1840, Henry Williams was given that one night to translate the treaty into Maori. He did it with the help of his son, Edward.

On the 5th of February 1840, around 500 Maori chiefs were presented the treaty and were given 3 days to discuss whenever they should sign or not.
On the 6th of February 1840, more than 40 Maori chiefs signed the treaty, the first one to sign being Hone Heke.
On the 3rd of September 1840, near Kawhia, the last signature was finally put on the treaty of Waitangi.
