  • In chapter two, Equality faces society conflict when the text says, "'We shall look upon you, Liberty 5-3000, if we see you among all the women of the earth'" (Rand 18). For we did not understand what had made us do this, and we were afraid to understand it" (Rand 26). When Equality kisses Liberty's hands, they are confused with themselves and unsure of their actions.
  • In chapter five, Equality faces society conflict when the text says, "... it is evil to have concern for their own faces or bodies. But tonight, for a reason we cannot fathom, we wish it were possible to us to know the likeness of our own person" (Rand 28). It is forbidden to think of seeing your own person in this society, yet Equality still wants to know.
  • In chapter six, Equality faces man conflict when the text says, "They tore our clothes from our body, they threw us down upon our knees and they tied our hands to the iron post. The first blow of the lash felt as if our spine had been cut in two" (Rand 29-30). The Punishers are actively lashing Equality for information about their whereabouts.
