Currently, however, we are still in the first trimester. The first trimester lasts from the last period until week 12.
During the first trimester, all tissues, organs and systems begin to develop. The placenta starts to develop as well. At the end of eight weeks, the embryo will be called a fetus. Gastrulation happens during this period of time.
The second trimester is a period of rapid growth. The tissues of the fetus becomes more specialized and begins to function. Now, the heart is larger and can be heard by a stethoscope; the early skeleton also starts to form. Lanugo also starts growing.
And by the third trimester, the fetus' organs start to mature and prepare for the outside world. It completes is development.
Then finally, after approximately nine months, the fetus is ready for birth. Normal birth occurs in three stages: dilation, expulsion and the placental stage.
And that where babies are from. In fact, it is where all life on earth, including you and me, comes from!
