- How was life adapting to this new country?He found it was very difficult. fortunately he had the support of my fiancé. starting with finding a job. Its always more difficult when your first language is not English. Also everyday life was very different from what he had experienced in Spain. Food, public transport, peoples character, and even the customs of the people. The food in New Zealand is more meat based and some basic Spanish ingredients were hard to find. In terms of the transport He fount it very difficult to move from one part to another in the city as it expands a lot and you always need a car and the public transport is not good. For the customs of the people is quite different for instance he found that people are less social and a little bit colder than in Spain.
- Obstacles he facedThere were 3 things that made leaving difficult for him. 1st was the emotional part which was leaving his parents. 2nd was the paper work part like how he had to apply for a visa. 3rd was cultural and having to accept that life here is very different to life in Europe.
- How has migration impacted your life?Becoming a immigrant has impacted him in positive and negative ways. The positive way is that he became a bi-cultural person and he can see the world better from a different lens. He can understand the world from different angles and understand better his own culture and the culture of New Zealand. However its always tough being apart from his family and friends. On top of that, he never feels like he belongs to a place. He no longer fully belongs to the Spanish society and he will never feel like he is fully New Zealander either.
