  • The Story of the French Revolution
  • I am Marie Antoinette and I spent so much money that it put France in a financial crisis!
  • I am the nobleman!
  • I am king Louis XVI!
  • I am a peasant!
  • You maid! Arrange the flowers! Other maid, help put on this jewelry!
  • Yes my queen.
  • Once upon a time in France during 1789 a revolution broke out, the French Revolution.
  • Our rights aren't being respected!
  • Just breathe...
  • We the first estate and the second estate vote for increased taxes!
  • In the Old Regime of France existed three estates, the first estate; the Clergy, which didn’t pay much tax to the government. The second estate; the nobles, didn’t have to pay any tax to the government. Lastly, the third estate; peasants and bourgeoisie. The bourgeoisie were middle class; just above the poor but not rich enough to make it to second estate. They paid 50% of their money to the government.
  • Then the Financial Crisis happened. The cause of it was over spending on lavish things by the King. The French government went into debt because of expensive wars and poor choices for economic planning. France was out of money and the people were angry.
  • King Louis XVI ordered a meeting of the General-Estates. People from all three estates were to attend the meeting. Everyone was to help instruct the king. The first and second state voted for increased taxes which is very unfair for the third estate. The third estate became angry and felt that their rights weren’t being respected.
  • The third estate had enough so they formed the National Assembly. The National Assembly made a Tennis Court Oath which provided them with a constitution. Although the financial crisis still continued on as food was scarce. Parisians urged new reforms.
