- The setting is in a mixed forest of mixed growth in the eastern spurs of the Carpathians. Ulrich is patrolling the dark to see if he see's his enemy appears which is Georg. The mood of the story is anger and tense.

- Ulrich wants to kill Georg because George is poaching in Ulrich land. Ulrich and Georg meet face to face with each other holding a rifle, with murdering each other on their mind.

- Both of them are staring at each other with the rifle in their hands when all of a sudden a storm hits them. A thunder strikes them Making a massive tree branch fall on them. This makes them become stuck underneath the tree branch.
- Theme
- Both of them are stuck underneath the tree branch. They start talking to each other and soon bring up the topic about the feud that has been going on for generations in their family. They soon make up and decide to become friends and put the feud aside and end it.
- Both of them become friends and decide the best option is to cry out for help. They like a troop running down the hill. They look closely and see wolves.
- The aurthor's message throughout this story is that feuds are pointless and it separates you from the person you are feuding with.
