- My dad lived in Mexico until he was a young adult. He wanted to leave because of push factors such as the low wages, few employment opportunities, and because of his housing situation (he lived on a farm). He traveled alongside my uncle.

He believed that he should immigrate to the United States because of pull factors such as job opportunities, economic balance, higher wages, and more advanced healthcare. He traveled alongside my aunt and uncle.

- My dad and uncle were able to reach the U.S. My uncle then moved to New York and my dad decided to stay in California because of the intervening opportunities in California. The main intervening opportunity for him was making a new friend, which offered him a job at his company.

- I want to go to New York and live in a big city.
- My friend offered me a job in his company, so I will stay in California.

- My mom was a family friend of my dad's family since childhood, and decided to move to the United States to be with him about a year after he was already settled. This is known as chain migration, since she immigrated to a new country to be reunited with my dad.
