  • Hi Ella, I brought the notebook you left at my desk 2 days ago at school.
  • Thanks a lot, Jade! What did you learn today in biology class? I skipped it due to a family emergency.
  • We learned a lot about pregancy today. We started after the fertilization process where the zygote did cell divisions until forming a morula and then becoming a blastocyst where it finally implanrts itself in the endometrium.
  • Oh, interesting! Is that it?
  • No, we learned all the way till the birthing process. it was really fun, our class had many questions to ask and it was onest of the funnest biology classes ever!
  • Sounds fun! I'm so sad I missed it, but do you mind retelling the whole material now?
  • After that implantation, the pregnancy journey begins, dividing it into 3 different trimesters. The first trimester is 0-3 months of pregnancy where the germ cells begin to forma and divide each task. Mesoderm, ectoderm, and endoderm each having their own task to develop into different parts of the baby's body. The placenta develops at this stage too. Going into the 2nd trimester, it's a period where the fetus' heart is now larger, cartilages have developed into bones which formed early skeleton. The development of lanugo or a soft layer of hair is in the stage
  • Exactly!
  • And I'm guessing there is the 3rd trimester right? I think I've read about it in the past. It's a period of rapid growth in which the organ systems have matured and the fetus is able to regulate its own body temperature. Development of the central nervous system and lungs have been completed by now. And the fetus is ready to be born after 8 months in the womb.
  • Next is the birthing process consisting of dilation, expulsion and placental stage. In dilation, the cervix would enlarge to about 10 cm. Oxytocin hormones are also working to stimulate muscle contraction in the uterine wall which may cause the amnionic sac to break and the amniotic fluid to flow through the vagina. In the expulsion stage, the involuntary contractions can be help by the mother contracting her voluntary abdominal muscle. 10-15 minutes afterbirth, the placenta will deattach from the uterine walls and can be removed from the mother's body. If not removed, it may rot inside the mother and be dangerous for the mother
  • Wow, it sounds painful but also a new knowledge for me!
  • No problem, Ella!
  • Thanks, Jade! Thanks for reexplaining the material and also bringing my notebook for me. It so kind of you, see you tomorrow at school. Thank you once again!
