  • On July 3, 1863 General Robert E. Lee chose to remain offensive and did yet another assault with 12,500 Confederate soldiers on the Union, which was the Pickett's Charge that turned out to be unsuccessful. The charge in fact was repelled by the Union's army. This resulted in heavy losses for the Confederates.

  • On July 3, 1863, the Union got attacked once again by another assault with 12,500 Confederate soldiers which was the Pickett's Charge that turned out to be unsuccessful. The Union stayed and held their place despite having heavy losses. However, at the end of the attack the Union counterattacked the Confederate's army and caused heavy losses.

  • General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, in Appomattox Court House, Virginia. The surrender took place in a small, low-key house that belonged to Wilmer McLean. The surrender of General Lee was very important and significant to the Union as it was a very big turning point. President Andrew Johnson announced the war 16 months later on August 20, 1866

  • President Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863, which was a short 272-word speech that reminded America why the Civil War was fought and to honor the fallen soldiers fighting it. The speech also included the famous lines "Four score and seven years ago..." which was a different way of saying 87 years ago which was when the Declaration Of Independence was signed and America was founded. This speech was a dedication to the battlefield of the Battle Of Gettysburg that, then became a cemetery.
