- During the westward expansion, technology has changed vastly today. In the 1860s, the Pony Express was common transportation to use, such as delivering mail for communication and getting an important message through. Early in the development of our western frontiers, the Pony Express was the only method of carrying mail quickly across the plains. It opened trails for passenger coaches and created ongoing connections during the gold rush and the settled parts of the nation.
- The pony express helped deliver mail over great distances on horses. People soon started to get irritated as their mail sometimes got delayed. This was because of weather conditions and the horse's health. Many inventors were working their way to solve this problem. This was a time when people were looking for more efficient ways to communicate. This made it difficult during the Westward Expansion as it delayed communication and important news.

- When the telephone lines were created, it spiked the growth of economic communication. The telegraph and telegraph lines helped western expansion by providing a way for people, businesses, and the government to communicate across long distances. After this new technology was made, it helped transmit messages quicker and more efficiently. This impacted the people as they could communicate directly and symptomatically.
