  • This is the beginning of a new stars life cycle. A planetary nebula, composed of just dust and gas. New stars form behind these clouds and once they are done astronomers are able to measure the temperature and luminosity of the star.
  • This is the new star that has finally developed, after forming behind the gas and dust clouds. This is the stage that astronomers can now figure out the temperature and luminosity of the new star. 
  •    
  • This is the h-r diagram. This is where the new stars are graphed and ordered by both temperature & luminosity. And after listing off the star clusters, you can even tell the age based on the placement.
  • This is the red giant. After stars spend centuries burning in the main sequence, overtime they begin to run out of gas. Turning the star into the red giant and slowly pulling away from the main sequence and start to expand.
  • Second to last stage, is the supernova. This is after the fact of the red giant has expanded and moved so far away from the main sequence that the outer layers of the core of the supernova is now exposed. Which now leaves a chance for one of two things to occur, the reminants develop into either a black hole or a neutron star.
  • After the shedding of the outer layers of the supernova, either a black hole or a neutron star could develop. And that all would have to do with the core of the old supernova. If the core were to collaspe and then completely vanish, that would become a black hole. Or if the core were to collaspe once again and become super dense, that would form into a neutron star.
