  • Sometimes,I HaveTwo Dads
  • By Jake Olson
  • Today is Monday. Dad is already at work, and Mom is scrambling to get me to my first day of 3rd Grade.
  • Jack will you PLEASE get your backpack? I can't do everything at once!
  • I really like my teacher. She taught us that we can always come to her if we need help. And if we are sad, she is always there to listen and cheer us up.
  • I'm Ms. Valerie. Welcome to 3rd Grade, Jack!
  • When I get home, I see brown shoes on the mat. Dad is home early.
  • Hey, son!
  • Dad is wearing his black shoes. He's really nice today and wants watch my favorite shows with me after school.
  • How was school today, son? Want to watch Paw Patrol?
  • Today was a good day. I'm glad Dad wanted to spend time with me.
  • A couple days later, Wednesday, starts the same as Monday. Dad is already gone. Mom is scurrying about getting ready to leave.
  • Jack PLEASE go brush your teeth. I shouldn't have to remind you!
  • As we leave for school, I see Dad's black shoes on the mat.  After school today might not be as fun as yesterday.Dad isn't always so nice.
  • Oh no! I spent too much time thinking about Dad that I forgot my backpack!
  • I'm sorry Ms. Valerie, I  forgot it at home.
  • Hey Jack! Where's your cool dino backpack?
  • Well that's alright, Jack. We can still have a good day without it, right?
  • Jack come play with us!
  • I don't really want to play with the other kids today...
  • After school, Dad isn't home to watch my favorite cartoons with me.
  • Slam
  • After my bedtime, I hear strange loud noises and shouting coming from downstairs.
  • Crash
  • I can't do everything, Mark!
  • How could you let him forget his backpack!?
  • Are they talking about me?
  • As I creep downstairs, I see Dad. But he's... different somehow. He's grumpy and smells really weird. I can't forget my backpack again. I don't want Dad to be mad.
  • The next morning Dad left his black shoes at home. I think I need to talk to Ms. Valerie today.
  • Good morning Jack! Great job remembering your backpack today!
  • Ms. Valerie, I need to tell you something.
  • Okay, Jack! Let's go  into the hall and have  a chat.
  • What's been going on, Jack?
  • Sometimes, my Dad comes home late and smells bad, and yells, and breaks things.
  • Thank you for being so mature and coming to an adult, Jack. How can I cheer you up?
  • Of course we can!
  • Can we watch Paw Patrol at indoor recess today?
  • The End.
