- Act 1. Scene 1
- "As for the rest of you, I’ll say this once more: go away or be put to death," (Shakespeare 1.1.23).
- Act 1. Scene 2
- "My permission is only part of her decision. If she agrees to marry you, my blessing and fair words will confirm her choice," (Shakespeare 1.2.17).
- Act 1. Scene 3
- "Well, marriage is exactly what we have to discuss. Tell me, my daughter Juliet, what is your attitude about getting married?" (Shakespeare 1.3.15.).
- A brawl is broken out between the Capulet's servants and Montague's servants, both noble families and rivals. Benvolio, Romeo's cousin, tries to stop the fight but along comes the Prince of Verona who threatens them with a death wish.
- Act 1. Scene 4
- Benvolio
- "If you sink, you’re dragging love down. It’s not right to drag down something as tender as love." (Shakespeare 1.4.1).
- Count Paris, the son of the Prince of Verona, tries to convince Capulet if he could make Juliet his bride. But is said that Juliet is too young to become a mother, not yet. But gives permission to him to get her consent of marrying him.
- Act 1. Scene 5
- Lady Capulet calls for Juliet and the Nurse for a discussion of Juliet's future plans. She says to Juliet if she willingly to married County Paris. Juliet is hesitant but says if he could capture her love at the party.

- Romeo, Mercutio (best of friends with Romeo), and Benvolio decide to the Capulet's party, even though they're Montagues. Benvolio wants Romeo to get over his obsession with Roseline. While Mercutio mocks Romeo by talking about Queen Mab.

- Roseline slips out of Romeo's mind when he spots Juliet in the dancing crowd. Romeo approaches Juliet without thinking, blinded by love, and dances with Juliet. Juliet is also later on blinded by love too but soon finds out that this stranger is a Montague and called Romeo.
