- A Big Mistake
- It was 2AM, and Ponyboy was hurrying home after Johnny and him had accidentally slept outside and weren't keeping track of time. Because Ponyboy got home late, Darry yelled and argued at him and ended up slapping him. It made Ponyboy mad, and he ran away in sadness. "He should never yell at Soda. Nobody should ever holler at my brother. I exploded. "You don't yell at him!" I shouted. Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door" (50).
- After Dally slapped him, Ponyboy ran away and looked for Johnny. Johnny noticed Ponyboy and asked what was wrong. He tried to comfort Ponyboy, but Ponyboy kept complaining about Darry. They then made the decision to run to the park first before going back to their houses.
- After running away from home to the park, Johnny and Ponyboy are jumped by the Socs. The Socs start to drown Ponyboy and almost beat up Johnny. In his pocket, Johnny had a knife and ended up stabbing Bob, one of the Socs. Johnny felt terrible and guilty whilst Ponyboy felt sick.
