- ¨There grew in my mind a strange fancy so ridiculous,indeed that I but mention it to show the vivid force of the sensations which oppressed me,¨
- ¨Do you hear it,Do you hear it!¨
- The narrator arrives by horseback at The House of Usher.Rodrick Usher wrote a letter to the narrator to come and visit him for a short time to help him overcome a illness he has been experiencing.The narrator arrives and gets a very strange gut feeling about the house,it is decaying and seems very dark and old.When he arrives he sees his old childhood friend pale and sick.
- Usher reveals that his twin sister Madeline is dying.The doctors wanted to do a otopsy on her and study her to see what had happend bur he didnt want that to happen so when she passes Usher decides to keep her body in a vault in one of the walls while he makes plans for her barial .The narrator notices that Madelines cheeks and chest are still flushed.Ushers apperance and illness begins to worsen after her death.
- Shortly after Madeline was placed in the vault The narrator began to hear strange frightening noises throughout the house.Usher opened the windows to a very dark and terrible storm happening outside his house.There was low hanging clouds and fog around the house.The narrator grabs Ushers favorite book to calm him down because the storm was frightening him.
- There is a loud echoing scream in the house.Usher tips over his chair and begins rocking back and forth .Usher whispers that he has been hearing noises from Madeline, his sisters coffin but wasnt sure if thats what he thought he was hearing now he fears that he has burried his sister alive.The door flies open,and Madeline is standing there,covered in blood.
- Madeline leaps upon Usher and dies.Usher also dies likely from shock and fear.The narrator flees the house
- As the narrator runs out the house he sees it collapse and dissapear into the fog and waters that the house once stood on.Now the house is completly gone.
