  • Powerlessness
  • George and Lennie are dedicated to working hard for the rest of their lives. They want the chance to work for themselves and to reap the benefits of their own hard labor, not to pass the spoils of their work on to others. They want to live off the land they own, not work for somebody else's dream.
  • Barriers

  • You was pokin’ your big ears into our business.
  • Although Curley's wife is often portrayed as cruel and troublesome, the real thing that isolates her is that she is a female in an all-male world. She is seen as someone that just exists on a farm with all men, she doesn't even have a name as she's just known as "Curley's wife".
  • That Curley got his work cut out forhim. Ranch with a bunch of guys on it ain’t no place for a girl, specially likeher.
  • If you got idears, you oughtta come in town with us guys tomorranight
  • Crooks is at the bottom of the social triangle as his race is his barrier. He's seen as a good-for-nothing man that cant do anything simply based on the color of his skin. Most people on the ranch find him to be below them.
  • I ain’t doing nothing
