Hello Students welcome to science class!

Today we will be discussing the topic of cell respiration and ATP

Now can someone tell me what ATP is and how it works

ATP isenergy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things.

captures chemical energy obtained from the breakdown of food molecules and releases it to fuel other cellular processes.

Now before we move on to the lab can someone describe what the reaction is for cellular respiration

Glucose reacts with oxygen forming ATP to be used by the cell. Water and Carbon Dioxide are then made as byproducts and are released.

Now one person tell me the role of electron carriers and another tell me where each is used

The role of electron carriers is to transport electrons during the process of cellular respiration

The electron carriers areNAD+ and FAD and these two are both used in the electron transport chain and help produce ATP.

Great work guys! Now look on the board for some more information on the process of cellular respiration

Steps of Cellular Respiration

1.Glucose is broken down in the cytoplams of the cell in a process called glycosis

2. Pyruvate molecules move into the mitochondria. They then enter the Krebs cycle in the mitochondria.

3. energy in the energy carriers enter the electron transport chain which the energy is used to proudce ATP

Now for homework describe to me what happens in cellular respiration without oxygen
