- ''When I have fears that I may cease to be''
- This line is about the fear of dying ''ceasing to exist.'' He was definitely in a mindset where he was thinking about death and what comes after it.
- ''Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain''
- This line is referring to the fact that the speakers main interest in life is writing. He wants to write until the day he dies.
- ''When I behold , upon the nights scarred face''
- This is an example of personification. He is referring to the night sky having a face which is a human characteristic.
- The Shift
- The shift happens in line 12. He goes from questioning what really matters to him in life. What does he want out of life before he dies? ln line 12 he realizing that all that he really needs is true love. As does everybody.
- ''Of the wide world I stand alone, and think''
- This line is referring to the fact that no matter how lonely he is no matter how long he doesn't have love or fame. He will always his own back he will always have writing as his love source.
- ''Till love and fame to nothingness do sink''
- The last and final line is referring to the fact that Keats knows that he could die at any moment. He knows that the sad truth is that he may go his whole life without his fulfillment of love fame.
