- one day a scientist named Mariah challenged herself to do 3 trig problems to test her knowledge.
- Mariah decided to look around her lab when she spotted a rectangular scale and wondered if she could find the angle of elevation from the bottom corner to the top when she drew a line between the two.
- Mariah measured the height opposite of the angle (6in) and the length adjacent to the angle(12in) and put the equation (tan-1(6/12) = x) x = 26.6
- Next Mariah noticed a triangle in the ceiling and wondered if she could find the hypotenuse using an angle and one of the sides. So Mariah measure an angle of 64 and a side of 47cm and found the equation of x=47/cos64 and found the hypotenuse of 101.2cm before being reminded that she needs to work for money.
- Sad she didn't win her competition against herself Mariah was about to give up when she saw the ladder leaned up against her apartment building it made a right triangle! Mariah whipped out her emergency measuring tape and scientific calculator and got to work she saw the wall was 16ft and the ladder was 25ft and found the equation for the angle of elevation (sin-1 {16/25) = 39.8)
- Satisfied after completing her quest Mariah sat down to hang out with her dog.
