- the beginning of the idea for the school of deaf.
- going to school and going to the US
- The US
- it starts with thestory of Clerc. he was the first deaf teacher in the U.S.A. His story starts with him as a young child. he fell into the fireplace and lost his hearing
- before Clerc got to the us
- when Clerc was old enoughhe went to school and his teachers were Jean Massieu and Abbe Sicard. He went to England and met Thomas Gallaudet who offered to take him across the ocean to the US to set up a school there for deaf people there.
- 1817 Clerc started the school
- When they got to the US they found that the little island they landed on already had a language for the deaf people. the people were very hesitant to have the two work with the kids and others with getting a new language.
- the deaf community today
- the us already had a small population of deaf and they made their own language. when Clerc got to the us his just help get it along.
- in 1817 the first school for the deaf was started
- today asl is working on being widly exepeted. i think it is an amazing language
