Texto do Storyboard

  • I have a science project on surface area and a health project on the small intestine, but I don't understand either of them. Could you please help me?
  • Sure! It's simple. Let's start with surface area.
  • I think I get it, thanks! But what about the small intestine?
  • Surface area is the part of an object that makes direct contact with its environment. Like the skin on an apple, that is the surface area of the entire apple!
  • Your small intestine is the longest organ in your digestive system, it's 690 cm long! If you could flatten out the surface of your small intestine, it would almost cover a football field! The first part of the small intestine is called the duodenum, which is where most nutrient absorption happens. Inside the small intestine the surface is wrinkled and folded. On those folds there are tiny fingerlike projections called villi, and there are even tinier projections on villi called microvilli! Folds, microvilli, and villi absorb more nutrients than a smooth surface would, which is why they are so helpful!
  • I think I get it now, thanks a lot! This is going to make both of my projects a lot easier.
