- In this population grassland of horses, there are two notifiable variants. The dark horses have hooves that are more suited for hard dry grounds, while the white horses have hooves that are resilient to the wet ground.
- In this area 100 years ago, there was very little rainfall. Making the dark horses more suited for this environment.
- Because of this, the darker horses had a higher risk of hove rot causing them a lot of pain and even their lives.
- Around 75 years ago there were record amounts of rainfall causing water to puddle on the ground.
- Now, the annual rainfall has stayed the same causing a year-round flood. The population of the white horse is more prominent in this new climate because they are not effected by the excess water.
- Natural selection has taken place in this population of horses. We can infer this because natural forces have caused a certain trait to give the horses an advantage. In this case, it is the water resistant hooves that the light horses have. this leads to them being able to easily survive in this new climate, unlike the dark horses
