  • Viola is saved by a Sea Captain and his crew from the storm. She thinks she has lost her brother. She also gets information on Illyria, the Duke and Countess Viola: "Who governs here?"Captain: "A noble duke, in nature as in name."Viola: "What is his name"Captain: "Orsino"
  • Act 1 Scene 5
  • Sir Toby returns from drinking and Maria quarrels with him in a flirty way. He tells her that he brought Sir Andrew to Illyria to woo her. Sir Andrew enters and tries to woo her with his words; Maria rejects him and leaves. Sir And.: "Sir Toby Belch! How now, Sir Toby Belch? "Sir Toby: "Sweet Sir Andrew!"Sir And.: "Bless you, Fair shrew"Maria: "And you too, sir."Sir Toby: "Accost, Sir Andrew, accost."

  • Viola disguised as Cesario talks with Valentine, an attending gentleman, about Viola already having the Duke's adoration in a matter of three days of meeting him. In Addition, Orsino then tells her to woo Lady Olivia for him.Val.: "If the Duke continue these favours towards you, Cesario, you are like to be much advanced: he hath known you but three days, and already you are no stranger."Viola/Cesario: "You either fear his humour, or my negligence, that you call in question the continuance of his love. Is he inconstant, sir, in his favours?"Val.: "No, believe me"
  • The fool tells Olivia that she is the fool for grieving for her brother if he is in heaven and some more witty comments get thrown about. A little later in that scene, Olivia emerges from her home's disarray to speak with Cesario. She removes her veil and she speaks with Cesario after 'he' requested her to, She tells him that she is not interested in Orsino but for him, Cesario, to visit her again to tell her how the Duke takes the news which is an excuse to see him. Olivia then sends Malvolio with Cesario's ring to give him back. Olivia: "I cannot love him: let him send no more, Unless, perchance, you come to me again. To tell me how he takes it. "
