- The king of Denmark dies. The news tears Hamlet, the son of the king. His mother Gertrude has married the king's brother, Claudius. Hamlet is filled with despair and resentment.
- I do not love you. I need to understand my purpose in life.
- One night, Hamlet sees the ghost of his father. The ghost informs Hamlet that Claudius killed him and instructs Hamlet to get his revenge. Hamlet feels the need to accomplish this to punish the wrongdoing of Claudius.

- Hamlet requests actors to put on a play about a man who murders a king in his sleep. He wanted to see how Claudius would react, which confirms his suspicion. Claudius gets furious while watching the play and walks off.
