- The Arabian Peninsula has a harsh and dry climate with little access to fresh water. The peninsula also lacked lakes and rivers and people could only get water from underground, rain, springs, and oases. The early people of the Arabian Peninsula were nomads who were constantly on the move for water. In the middle of the peninsula, some oases had enough water to support agriculture. Only some people from their nomad groups could become sedentary and settle at these oases, the others stayed nomads. When the nomad members of their clan visited the sedentary members offered food for things such as animals, meat, and other things. This way of exchange became the early clan's first form of trade and sprouted the first "trade routes" on the Arabian Peninsula.
- In some parts of Arabia, fresh water was accessible enough for large communities and settlements to form. On the West coast of Arabia springs in the mountains provided enough water for agriculture. But, the southern coast had the best agriculture because of the Monsoon winds that brought seasonal rain to Arabia, and thus near year-round agriculture was possible. The population of the large settlements in the peninsula continued growing and became some of Arabia's first Kingdoms.
