- Toussaint L'overture's father teaches him about Africa and that he is much more than just a slave and deserves to be treated with dignity.
- As conflict between the plantation owners and free people of colored continued, the slaves started a revolt and Toussaint L'Overture joined as a general.
- Toussaint becomes the leader of the slave revolt in 1798. This is when he becomes known as Toussaint L'Overture. He gives his famous speech during a storm.
- Toussaint successfully defends against invading Spanish, French and British armies, with the hep of yellow fever. He also helps France eject Britain and Spain from the colony.
- Toussaint becomes the de facto governor of the colony. Napoleon agrees to recognize Haiti as an independent state and Toussaint agrees to give up public for.
- Napoleon invites Toussaint to France to work out a peace treaty. Instead, Napoleon breaks his promise and imprisons Toussaint. Toussaint dies month later in prison to to lack of of nourishment.
