- Exposition
- HI, I'm Charlie! This is my friend Algernon! He's a very smart mouse, a lot smarter than me! I wanna be smart too
- Rising action
- Rising action pt.2
- I did it! I beat Algernon! I'm getting smarter!
- This is Charlie Gordon, he is a 37 year old man who is mildly mentally disabled.  He has an IQ of 68, and he is very determined to learn. He goes to Ms. Kinnian's adult school. Charlie is chosen to become part of an experiment to make people like him smarter. The same experiment was done on a mouse, Algernon. 
- Climax
- Charlie get's the operation done to triple his IQ, with the guidance of Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur.
- Falling action
- Go away Miss Kinnian!
- Charlie begins getting smarter, starting with things like becoming smarter than Algernon. He also learns to recognize his own emotions, read, and speak different languages. 
- Resolution
- Algernon begins regressing. He stops eating, doing the mazes, and becomes more vicious. Algernon eventually dies, coming with the realization that he will most likely regress in the same way.
- Charlie begins to lose his intelligence. He stops being able to read in different languages, spelling things well, and he starts losing memories. He hides in his apartment and refuses to see any of his doctors or Ms. Kinnian.
- Charlie completely reverts back to his old self and moves away from New York, to a place where no one knows he was once a genius.
