  • On Monday and Tuesday, I recapped design principles. I first heard these concepts around five years ago in an instructional design course my colleagues and I did at work, so they weren’t completely new to me. Even though I have no design training I engage with spec designs and cover designs for the textbooks I publish so many of the concepts were familiar. However, I do not work with online learning so do not actively practise principles of multimedia effect, contiguity etc.
  • On Thursday I was interested to learn how to make an interactive PowerPoint as I have been curious about the navigation and quiz functionality for a while. University students often use their lecturer’s PowerPoints (designed for lecturing) to study from and an interactive PowerPoint would help them as a study tool.
  • I skimmed the different games, and I thought the memory game one held the most educational potential but it seemed way too complicated and time-consuming to make in PowerPoint so I went with a crossword puzzle. I think I could make crossword puzzles from our end-book glossaries. This will help students engage with the key concepts of their disciplines.
