- The United States sympathized for Cuban rebels. Spains empire was declining.

- American Yellow Journalism publishers created false announcements of Spain against Cuba, so the Americans wanted to invade Cuba. They made money off of this.
- Lets spread fake news over media to influence people's opinion!!

- Explosion of the Maine on February 15th, 1898 sparked a war in the Havana Harbor. Out of 250 on board, 266 died. This ship was originally sent into Cuba to protect American lives and poverty in Cuba.
- A war broke out after these events. The Americans were very enthusiastic about the war, but unprepared for the tropical war.
- The total death from battle is 385. But, the biggest threat are diseases and sicknesses. The total deaths from sick people are 2,061.

- The war ends in Decoember 1898 and Spain gave control of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines the United States.
