- Mathilda believes she was to pretty to not be rich and is always complaining about her life and isn't grateful for what she already has. she is always jealousof what other people have.
- Climax
- She thinks her husband is too poor to be married to her. she complains that she won't have a nice dress for the dance she wants to attend so she tells her husband to pay for a new dress. She also says she needs a necklace which is also a lot of money and she ends up borrowing her friends dimond necklace.
- Falling Action
- Mathilda is so happy that everyone is staring at her and she feels the best at the party. She doesn't give a second thought about her husband and how much he just spent on her.
- Resolution
- When she gets back she notices that her diamond necklace is gone and so her husband goes out and tries to look for it but he doesn't find anything so they tell her friend that they borrowed it from that it was in the shop to stall for time.
- They decide to just buy another necklace which puts them in debt and is really poor now. matilda now has to do actual chores instead of watching the maids do it because they couldn't afford them anymore.
- after ten years she tells her friend that the necklace was a fake and they bought a new one which put them into debt and made them really poor. Her friend is shocked because her necklace was actually fake.
