- Exposition
- Ruffus (right), and Mateo (left), both receive a call from Death cast at midnight, telling them that they would die that day. Ruffus says goodbye to his family while being chased by the cops because he beat up a guy. Mateo was playing video games in his room, worrying about going outside. They meet over an app that allows people that are dying that day to have a last friend.
- Rising Action
- Ruffus and Mateo try to make the best of the day by going places that brought them joy and going places designed for deckers (people dying that day).
- Climax
- They walk around New York for a while and eventually end up at a bar/club where they want to meet their friends. Mateo and Ruffus start decide to be boyfriends and they love each other.
- Falling Action
- They go back to Mateo's apartment where they get a few hours of sleep until Mateo wakes up at 10:00 pm and turns on the stove, killing him and injuring Ruffus.
- Resolution
- Rufus is sent to the hospital, where he is treated for his burns, and then he walks across the road, headed to the park, and it implies that he gets ran over by a truck.
