  • Antony meets Octavius and Lepidus at his house. They review a list of names, deciding who must be killed. Lepidus agrees to the death of his brother if Antony will agree to allow his nephew to be killed.

  • , for although he does not definitively know of some plot against Caesar, he is afraid that one exists. Portia finally sends Lucius to speak to Brutus after the soothsayer leaves.The soothsayer enters, and Portia questions him; he says he is on his way to the Capitol to warn Caesar as he approaches
  • Act 5
  • A servant arrives to tell Antony that Brutus and Cassius have fled the city and that Octavius is in Rome and waits at Caesar's house. Antony hurries to meet Octavius. Out for blood, the angry mob swarm the streets of Rome. They come upon Cinna the poet, who happens to have the same name as one of the assassins.

  • The main conflict in this act is the impending civil war between the triumvirate and the conspirators who assassinated Caesar. The preparations for war reveal some other issues on both sides. The triumvirate is a group of three men who share control of the Roman Empire. Those men are Marc Antony, Octavius, and Lepidus.
  • Cato fights boldly and is killed, and Lucilius, pretending to be Brutus, is taken captive. Then Antony enters and, recognizing Lucilius, spares his life and orders that he be treated kindly, in hopes that he will become an ally. This scene contrasts Brutus's principled nature with Antony's calculating one.
