- We are introduced to Rainsford and learn that he is traveling on a yacht to an island to hunt jaguars and other exotic animals. He then looks out at the water and smokes his pipe. He ends up dropping the pipe and reaches for it and falls overboard. Everyone was asleep and could hear his cries over the loud engine. In no time he couldn't see the boat anymore and slowly swam hoping he would find land.

- Rainsford slowly swam toward loud cries(screaming) he didn't recognize. He then heard it again and swam to shore. Then he heard a gunshot and the screams stopped. He rested for a while then followed hunting boot prints. He followed them until he stopped upon a huge mansion in the middle of the forest. He knocked and waited for somebody to help him.

- A huge man answered the door and blankly stood there pointing a gun at Rainsford. Then Rainsford tried to talk to him but he got no response. Then a handsome man with black hair and cold eyes told the huge man to let him inside and they began to converse and learned his name was General Zaroff, and the huge man's name is Ivan.

- Rainsford is given new clothes and he and General Zaroff eat dinner. As they eat they discuss their common interests, Rainsford learns that the General is a pretty good hunter. Just like him! even though the General already knew about him. The General then goes on about why he lives on the island and the amazing hunting game it provides. He goes on to explain that he doesn't hunt animals and to Rainsford's horror, he hunts people! He kidnaps them and they play a three-day hunting game. The general then asked Rainsford to hunt with him tonight but Rainsford refused.
- Rainsford was thrown into the jungle and gets hunted by The General. He evades him countless times in almost a three-day span. He used traps to help his chances of survival, for example, he used The Uganda Knife Spring Trap. A knife is tied to a springy sapling and then triggered when someone walks by it. This trap killed Ivan, and then The General sent the dogs after Rainsford. They chased him all t.he way to a cliff, he jumped off to escape the dogs.
- Take that!
- Defeated after he lost the game The General went to look out the window before he went to sleep. As he turned around to go to bed he saw Rainsford hiding by his bed. The General was surprised, he thought Rainsford died or escaped! Rainsford approached the general and they conversed, then settled on a duel. The winner would sleep in The General's bed and the loser would be fed to the dogs.
