What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east and Juliet is the sun.
Oh Romeo, Romeo why do you have to be Romeo? Tis but thy name that is my enemy. Be but sworn my love, and i'll no longer be a Capulet.
What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?
I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized. Henceforth I never will be Romeo.
Romeo climbs the wall into the Capulet's yard, and as he is strolling through it, he notices Juliet in the window.
My ears have not yet drunk a hundred words of that tongue's uttering, yet I know the sound.
Juliet starts to talk to herself, not knowing that Romeo is listening. Juliet starts to tell herself that if Romeo ever swears his love to Juliet, she will become a Montague.
My life were better ended by their hate than death prorogued, wanting love.
If they do see thee, they will murder thee.
Juliet starts to think about how a name has no real meaning and that if someone had a different name, they would still be the same person. After Juliet talks about this, Romeo contemplates revealing himself to Juliet.
Dost thou love me? I know thou wilt say "ay" and I will take thy word. Yet if thou swear'st thou mayst prove false. O gentle Romeo, If thou dost love, pronounce it faithfully.
Lady by yonder blessed moon I vow
Romeo confronts Juliet and explains how if Juliet were to say that she loves Romeo, he would change his name to be with Juliet. Then without even looking at Romeo, Juliet tells Romeo how she can already recognize him just by the sound of his voice, even though she hasn't really heard him speak.
If that they bent love honorable, thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow.
Juliet realizes that if anyone sees Romeo, he will get killed. Romeo says to Juliet by saying that he would rather die than not be able not to be able to love her.
Who o'clock tomorrow shall I send to thee?
Juliet wants to know if Romeo really loves her and if Romeo is willing to die for her, so Romeo ends up swearing his love to her.
Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say good night till it be morrow
Juliet wants to test if Romeo truly loves her and if he really wants to marry her. She will sound like a messenger, and then he can pass on a message about where and when they will be getting married. Romeo responds to Juliet by saying he will send back a message with their marriage details.
So thrive my soul.
Juliet is wondering what time to send the messenger to Romeo so that they can arrange their marriage. Romeo responds and says that Juliet should send the messenger at nine o'clock
By the hour of nine
Juliet tells Romeo how she is sad that he has to go and that she does not want Romeo to leave, but he has to. As Romeo is leaving, he wishes Juliet a good night, and he says he wishes he could spend the night with Juliet, but he can't, so he goes home and tells his priest about his good luck.
Sleep dwell upon thine eyes, peace in thy breast. would I were sleep peace, so sweet to rest. hence will I to my ghostly friars close cell, his help to crave and my dear hap tell.
