- The year is 1528, and 250 Spanish explorers have made it to Florida in search for riches only to find themselves in a harrowing situation of starvation and disease. Forced to give up all of their weaponry to the natives of the land and eat their own horses for sustenance, the explorers found themselves unsure of their survival.
- The expedition left only 4 of the 250 explorers alive, with the last few being captured by natives and used for labor. They would escape their predicament after 6 years, now completely stranded in the unknown lands of North America.
- The stranded explorers began to learn native languages and customs while traveling the land, and used this new knowledge to their advantage, becoming healers for tribes around the country.
- The explorers were passed between many tribes to spread their healing powers, becoming close with the natives and their culture over time.
- After years of assimilating with the natives, the four explorers would be found by a new Spanish exploration group and sent back to Spain, where they explained what happened to them. Cabesa de Vaca, the former leader of the exploration group, even lobbied for a peaceful colonization for the New World after his positive experiences with the natives.
- Cabesa de Vaca's plan of a peaceful colonization never came to fruition, ever after leading some expeditions to North America himself. For the rest of his life, he would reminisce about his experiences with the natives of the New World and how they changed his view of the unknown.
