- Hey! did you know that the Earth is not flat like a disc and that its shape is a oblate spheroid?
- Really? isn't the Earth always been flat because we can see that the horizon is straight when we look over it?
- Of course I can prove it! with a help of a stick!
- A stick? how?
- Can you prove what your saying is true then?
- with the shadow cast by the stick we can determine the circumference of the Earth
- How is that even possible?
- According to Eratosthenes the light rays from the sun are parallel making the Earth curved
- Still that doesn't explain how the earth is a oblate spheroid
- He found out that the shadow here in Alexandria is 7.2' while in Syene it is only 0'
- He computed that circumference of the Earth is 250,000 stadia which is about 40,000 km with a help of a stick!
- So he based the shape of the Earth with a stick?! Isn't that kinda silly? using a stick to measure the Earth? that is impossible!
- It isn't impossible my friend with calculations and observation we can prove that the world is really a oblate spheroid and not aflat disc!
- I don't believe you and your oblate sphere Earth! for me the Earth is flat and that's that!
