- Mr. Eckels is going to travel back into time and hunt a dinosaur. They talk about how they are happy with the president and that they are able to do this because of him because the other candidate would not have liked it. They are in this store that has a real live time machine in it. We meet Travis who is going to be Mr. Eckels safari guide. Travis is making sure that Mr. Eckels knows what he is about to get into and he is scaring him. Travis also says that he can't guarantee that everyone will make it out alive. They also learn that Lesperance has made a specific path that stay on so they don't alter anything in the future. There also two other men hunting with them Billings and Kramer.

- "Stay on the Path. Don’t go off it. I repeat. Don’t go off. For any reason! If you fall off, there’s a penalty. And don’t shoot any animal we don’t okay.”
- Travis explains that they have a very thought out system that is there so it doesn't change the future at all. Mr. Eckels and the other men are ready to hunt. Mr. Eckels gets scared and he keeps talking which they told him not to do. Mr. Eckels tries heading back to the time machine but instead he goes off the path and starts running. The other guys successfully kill the dinosaur but they are mad at Mr. Eckels because he nearly got them killed by talking.and because MR. Eckels went off the path when he wasn't supposed to. Travis makes Mr. Eckels get the bullets out of the dinosaur and contemplates leaving him here because that would be a lot of paperwork because he broke the law. Most of them thought it was going to be fine he only touched a little bit of dirt.

- “Frankly, yes. We don’t want anyone going who’ll panic at the first shot. "

- Travis is still on the edge on whether Mr. Eckels should be alive or not. They get back to the lobby and see that something is slightly different the man behind the counter is different and the words on the sign were gibberish. He looked at his shoe and there was a little mud in it. The mud fell out and embedded in the mud was a butterfly. The winner of the election was different as well. Travis then kills Mr. Eckels with his rifle.

- "There’s no way of telling if this expedition was a success, if we got our monster, or whether all of us — meaning you, Mr. Eckels — got out alive.”
- "Stay on the Path. Don’t go off it. I repeat. Don’t go off. For any reason! If you fall off, there’s a penalty. And don’t shoot any animal we don’t okay.” This was the first foreshadowing I found. They were really emphasizing not to go off the path in the story and they had given an example of how going off the path can effect the future and that is foreshadowing that something is going to happen in the future.

- "“Trying to scare me!”“Frankly, yes. We don’t want anyone going who’ll panic at the first shot. " This was foreshadowing because it talks about how some people panic on the first shot and then they die. You find out later in the story that this is exactly what happens to Mr. Eckels.
- "There’s no way of telling if this expedition was a success, if we got our monster, or whether all of us — meaning you, Mr. Eckels — got out alive.” This one really helped me to see that something bad was going to happen and it was going to happen soon. He specifically pointed this at Mr. Eckels. Mr. Eckels was kind of challenging the rules and so these pieces helped me to see that Mr. Eckels was going to do something and it was going to be bad.
