- The xyz affair was when the us sent representatives to france and asked them to stop attacking their ships. The French reps that meet with them where code named X, Y & Z. The french refused because they wanted to paid. The US response was they said no.
- do we have to follow this? Give more power to the states and let them choose!
- This lead to the Quasi-War. This was an undeclared naval war between the United States and France during the Presidency of John Adams. It grew out of the XYZ Affair and ended when French politics changed direction after Napoleon came into power.

- The Alien and Sedition Acts were a series of four laws passed by the U.S. Congress in 1798 amid widespread fear that war with France was imminent.
