- Ponyboy is attacked by the Soc's. The Gang and Darry hear him yelling and run to help him.
- Ponyboy and Johnny meet Cherry and Marcia at the movies. Ponyboy tells Cherry about the time the Soc's beat up Johnny and left him for dead in the vacant lot.
- Ponyboy and Johnny are approached by the Soc's while walking the girls home. They are angry about them being with thier girlfriends. To avoid a fight the girls go home with the Soc's. After Darry and Ponyboy argue because he is late and Darry hits him. He decides to run away from home.
- Ponyboy and Johnny are jumped in the park by the Socs's. One of the Soc's tries to drown Ponyboy. Johnny stabs Bob to save Ponyboy. All the Soc's run away after that. They run to meet Dally who tells them how to get out of town. He gives them money and a gun.
- Ponyboy and Johnny hide at the church Dally told them to go to. They cut their hair and dye Ponyboy's. They kill time by reading "Gone With the Wind" till Dally comes.
- Dally comes to give them news from home and takes them to lunch. When they get back the church is on fire with children trapped inside. Ponyboy, Johnny and Dally save children. They are all hurt and taken to the hospital.
