- Someone has stolen my lightning bolt, and you know who that someone is.
- Hello, I'm Percy Jackson. You probably think I'm a normal human being, but I'm actually a half-blood. That means that I'm part human and part god--a demigod. Being a half-blood is dangerous. You can get killed in so many ways by fighting monsters and other stuff like that. If you're a normal person, you can't see what half-bloods can see. There is something called "the mist" that disguises monsters and half-bloods from humans. I'm going to tell you a bit about myself.
- I live in an apartment in New York City with my mom. I never knew who my real dad was.
- Are you ready for the first day of school?
- Instead I have to deal with my stepfather Smelly Gabe. He usually invites his buddies over to play poker and drink lots of beer.
- I go to school at Yancey Academy. I have never been to a school for more than a year because I have dyslexia and it's one of my main problems. I hope this school will be the lucky one and I'll stay longer.
- My best friend--well, my only friend--Grover, has always helped me over the years with problems, and he always has my back.
- It's always been hard for me to follow the classes because anytime I look at the board my dyslexia translates normal English writing into Greek writing.
- It's been affecting classes for me, like English and math, and anything that I have to read. My math teacher, Mrs. Dodds, always asks me if I can solve the problems but I usually can't.
- The only class I don't have trouble in is Latin with Mr. Brunner because my dyslexia doesn't affect me with Latin. He is also the fun teacher. He lets us have free time at the end of class if we finish our work, and he tells us jokes. Sometimes he even lets us out early. But he was born with a physical disability, so he uses a wheelchair.
