- Okay class I am going to explain Eutrophication Today!
- Well let's start at the beginning of the process that's why we are here.
- Fertilizer is what makes plants grow bigger and stronger faster basically a plant steroid. This is made up of three main thingspotassium, phosphorus, and nitrogen
- Whats That?!?!
- Now let's talk about runoff. Runoff can take the soil were the fertilizer was and carry it into bodies of water carrying those chemicals with them
- What are algae blooms? These are in bodies of water when algae is abundant and overgrown. These form when there is a surplus of nutrients and are the perfect condition for algae to surplus when those chemicals from the runoff get into bodies of water.
- yes now you're getting it!
- OHHHH thats why fertilizer is so bad!
- Also algae are decomposers so they need oxygen too so they take oxygen leaving fish and other animals without oxygen causing them to die.Also without the sun the plants in the water can not go through the process of photosynthesis
- This algae bloom can affect the water source it is on by not letting sunlight in therefore making the water not be able to receive the suna and so the animals in it don't receive sunlight.
- boooo Algae blooms!!
- All of this leads to DEAD ZONES! This is a section of any body of water that is dead because of these algae blooms taking all the nutrients and oxygen. All of this started from the runoff of that fertilization. And that is the end of class thank you!
