  • Hello students, today we will be reviewing transformations. We will focus more on enlargements. Enjoy!
  • Translations is when you TRANSLATE or MOVE a shape. Take the above question.
  • The bottom number indicates the number of squares to move up (negative numbers indicate squares to move down.
  • Remember, top numbers indicate the x axis, while bottom numbers indicate the y axis.
  • The numbers in brackets/parentheses are called VECTORS. The top number indicates the number of squares to move right (negative numbers move left).
  • First, lets do translations.
  • Next, rotate the tracing paper by the angle give. Remember to check whether of not it is clockwise or anti-clockwise. The new shape is your answer.
  • Count the same distance from the origin to the new square using the new line. Do the same to the other vertices (draw 2 lines for each one). Double check each vertex by matching the length of each edge.
  • Rotations is when you ROTATE a shape about an origin and by a certain degree.
  • You can also use tracing paper, which is faster. Trace the shape and draw a line to the origin.
  • Now, lets do rotations.
  • To do that, first find the centre of origin on the grid. Next draw a straight line from the origin to the first vertex. Count the distance from the origin to the first vertex. Measure the angle of the rotation, then draw a line passing through the origin with the angle at the intersection being the requested angle.
