  • let me carry his body to the marketplace and, as a friend shall to do, stand on the platform and give a proper funeral oration.
  • You may, Mark Antony
  • Can I have a word with you? You don't know what's happening to Antony. Don't let him speak at his funeral. Don't you know how much people will be moved by what he will utter?
  • I’ll stand on the platform first and explain the reason for Caesar’s death.
  • Friends, Romans, countrymen, who is so low that he would like to be a slave? Who is so barbarous that he doesn't want to be a Roman? Who is so vile he doesn't love his country If anyone is offended, speak for it is him whom I've offended. Would you rather have Caesar be alive and still we be his slaves, or that he would have been dead and all of us would have been enslaved? There are many tears for Caesar, for his bravery, and for his ambition. You may believe me, but please do not judge me until I finish. If there's anyone in this assembly who thinks that I love Caesar less than him, I say to them that my love for Rome is more than Caesar. This is my answer if they ask why I rose up against Caesar.
  • We want answers. Give us answers!
  • Friends, Romans, countrymen, I have come here not to praise him but bury my noble friend. The noble Brutus has said Caesar is ambitious. If in there is truth, it is a serious fault, and Caesar had seriously paid for it. With the permission of the noble and honourable Brutus, I have come forth to speak at Caesar's funeral. My friend was faithful and just to me but Brutus says he is ambitious and Brutus is an honourable man. Caesar brought captives home to Rome whose ransoms brought wealth to the city. He cried with the poor. Is ambition so soft? Yet Brutus says he is ambitious and Brutus is an honourable man. When offered the king’s crown, he refused three times. Yet Brutus says he is ambitious. And indeed Brutus is an honourable man. I come here to speak what I know , not against what Brutus said because Brutus is an honourable man. There was once a time when he was loved, not without a reason. What stops you from mourning about noble Ceasar now? He was an honourable man and he shall not lose his reason. Suffer with me! My heart has been buried with Caesar, and I must bear until it is given back to me.
  • I think there’s a lot of sense in what he says.
  • If you think about it correctly, Caesar has suffered a great wrong
