- The Night Stalker left a fingerprint on a stolen car. Once recovered by the police, the print was immediately scanned and searched against the millions of prints in AFIS. After three minutes, the AFIS returned a list of possible matching fingerprints. The first one linked Ramirez to the crimes.

- In 1989, Richard Ramirez was sentenced to the conviction of 13 murders, five attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries.Twenty-four years later, Ramirez died from lymphoma on June 7, 2013.
