- " By Christ, he's gotta talk when he 's spoke to. What the hell are you gettin' into it for."
- " S'pose he don't wanna talk."
- Carlson and Candy are arguing about killing or not killing Candy's dog.
- " Look Candy. This ol' dog jus' suffers hisself all the time. if you was to take him out and shoot him in the back of the head-," Carlson leaned and pointed,"- right there why he'd never know what hit him."
- " No," Candy said softly. " No, I couldn' do that. I had 'im too long."
- Whit is telling George to go with them into the town tomorrow night and meet old Susy.

- " If you got idears, you oughtta come in town with us tomorra night."
- " Just the usual thing. We go into old Susy's place. Hell of a nice place."
- " Why? What's doin."
- Curley popped in the bunkhouse to say if his wife was in there but the guys said no. He said if Slim was here the guys said he left 5 to 10 minutes ago in the barn so Curley got up and ran towards the barn.
- Curley and Lennie got into a fight and Lennie destroyed Curley's hand.
- " You tol' me to George."
- " Leggo his hand, Lennie. Leggo. Slim, come help me while the guy got any hand left."
