- The story opens with Gonzalo, Antonio, and Alonso fighting the Botswain and his crew, who are in the midst of a severe storm at sea and are acting in complete fear. The crew gets shipwrecked on an island as the boat breaks. Prospero, who has been banished from Milan for twelve years, used sorcery on the island to create this storm. His super-natural helper Ariel has helped him. Ariel despises working for Prospero.
- a result of the tempest that Prospero caused, his opponents' ship sank, scattering its passengers—including his rebellious brother—all across the island.
- When Miranda and Ferdinand first meet, they proclaim their love for one another and decide to get married
- When Alonso and his group decide to take a break, Prospero arranges for a dinner to be placed in front of them. Ariel, disguised as a harpy, comes just as they are ready to eat and accuses them of betraying Prospero. Alonso is overcome with regret.
- Alonso and the others are forced to enter guilty pleas in front of Prospero. He grants them forgiveness and offers an invitation to Alonso and his group to remain the night before departing for Italy the following day. Now, Prospero will reclaim his dukedom.
- Alonso discovers that Miranda, Prospero's daughter, and his son are engaged. Ariel is set free by Prospero, who also pardons everyone and prepares to sail to Milan with the rest of the characters in the story.
