- July 1962, Nikita Khrushchev talked to the Cuban premier Fidel Castro to see if they could place nuclear missiles on Cuba. October 14, 1962- An American U-2 spy plane discovered the missiles on Cuba, and the launch sites were being built by the Soviet Union. They secretly photographed it.

- October 22, 1962- JFK decided to blockade Cuba and American forces were put on high alert. JFK then addressed the American public and the world on TV. He announced that there were Soviet missiles on Cuba and that the US was blockading the island.
