- In 1803, France sold a lot of land to America for 15 million Dollars, doubling the size of America. 15 million back then would be 345 million today.

- Wow, this is basically the Great American Desert
- In 1804, Lewis and Clark went on an expedition to map the new territory. They spent 123 miles in Kansas and described it as a very beautiful area with lots of animals and plants.
- Jackson's Speech
- We should kick out the people who were already here and steal their land
- Traveled through Kansas in 1806. He thought Kansas was a desert and compared it to the Sahara.
- Indian Removal Act
- Traveled by steamboat. He labeled Kansas "The Great American Desert" on his map.
- In 1829, President Andrew Jackson made a speech to Congress calling Native Americans "Savages" and saying that they should be relocated
- That's a good idea!!
- In 1830, the Indian Removal Act forced Native Americans to move to Kansas and other areas. Conditions were bad.
