  • I agree that with what was suggested about how to address slavery, but on the second part you completely contradicted yourself. You can't be pro-slavery and also have slaves count the same as slave masters. I don't think we should count slaves in the census.
  • Stop fighting! We should come to a compromise! Here is my proposal: We don't outlaw slavery but we don't directly mention it in the documents. We will also count slaves as three fifths of a person instead of counting them as a whole person or not counting them at all.
  • I like that compromise!

  • I'm glad that we all agree about slavery and prevention against tyranny through distribution of power, but we still need to figure out which types of things the government will be in charge of, and which types of things individual states will be in charge of.
  • I think that we should let states govern themselves! That way, the government can't be tyrannical, because they won't be able to control the states! If the leaders of a certain state are tyrannical, citizens can simply move to a different state. It is much easier to move to a different state because of a tyrannical state government than it is to move to a different country because of a tyrannical national government.
  • I understand your point about how giving states power would prevent tyranny, but your solution to that problem gives to no power to the government! We need a solution that gives some power to the government, but not too much power. We need a balance between state and government powers! That way we can prevent tyranny without depriving the government of its power.
  • I fully agree that we should have a balance between state and national powers, but we need to figure out which powers should go to the states and which powers should go to the government. One thing that I think should be under government rule is international affairs. The goverment should be in charge of this because they represent our nation, and each state is not its own nation. Therefore, it is the governments job to deal with things involving other countries.
  • I completely agree with everything that you said. I also have a few ideas about which types of issues should be enforced by which levels of government. I agree that international affairs should be handled by the national government, but I think that the national government should also be allowed to tax and borrow money. However, I don't think that states should be allowed to tax goods that cross their borders because state legislatures can easily become corrupt and tyrannical and institute unfair taxes on merchants. In addition, I believe that states should be in charge of deciding which things are illegal, policing, and education within their borders.
  • I think that everything said today was well thought out and I think that it should go into our set of rules for our country. I just have one issue. What should we do if the national law and the state law contradict each other?
  • Thank you for brining that issue up, because I don't think that any of us would've thought of it! I think that the national law should always be supreme over the state law because it is easier to get a law approved on the state level than it is on the national level, which means that national laws are probably more well thought out than state laws. If we can agree on that, then I think that we are ready to start putting these rules onto a big document together! If you agree with everything that was said today, say "I agree". If more than half of us agree, then I think that we should start writing!
  • They agreed, so the constitution was written! I'd like to say that they all lived happily ever after, but that would be lying, so I'll just say that they were happy for the moment.
  • You just completely contradicted yourself! If we are not going to abolish slavery, then they shouldn't count as human! Plus, if they don't count as human, colonies such as my home colony of Connecticut will have more of a say in Congress.
